Tanzania looses to Uganda
The Tanzanian cricket team failed to beat the Ugandans because of their poor
batting. They managed to score 70 runs only in 40 overs. This was the first
match played at Lotus Cricket Ground. Winning the toss Tanzania elected to bat
on a slow perfect batting wicket.
The first wicket of Issa Kikasi fell on the fifth over, when the score was 10
runs, then the wickets fell on regular intervals. i.e. on
22,37,41,48,53,53,59,66 and 70.
Abhik Patwa (16) runs and Hamisi Abdallah (10) runs were the only batsmen who
scored double figures and stayed at the wicket.
Ugandan bowlers had to bowl 40 overs to dismiss Tanzania. Patrick Ochan took
three wickets and conceded only 9 runs in his 6 overs to claim the man of the
match award.
The fall of Bhavesh Govind’s wicket followed by two suicidal runouts by Hussein
Shani and Benson Mwita. When the score was at 53, dismissed any chances for
Tanzanians putting up a big score.
Uganda with a meager 70 runs to chase successfully crossed the target on the
20th over for the loss of two wickets Nehal Bibodi (22) runs and Ben Musoke (10)
runs. The two not out batsmen were Joel Oliven (25) runs and Junior (7) runs.
Tanzania will have to now beat Namibia tomorrow at the Metro Ground to enable
them to stand at the contention for the places in the finals.
At the opening ceremony of this tournament Mr. Hussein Ayoub the ICC development
regional officer was full of praise of the Tanzanian Team which is the youngest
in this tournament and has forseen bright future of cricket in Tanzanian for the
young Tanzanian team.
