ICC AFRICA REGION DIV 2 WCQ S. AFRICA FROM 17TH TO 29TH AUGUST 2018.
Tanzanian u 19 cricket team left DSM for S. Africa to participate in the ICC Africa region div 2 qualifiers played at northwest criket union in Potchefstroom, S. Africa.
Venue: Northwest Cricket Union, Senwes park.
Ground: Main stadium.
Match no 1. Tanzania v/s Botswana.
Tanzania won the toss and elected to bat first. A good opening partnership from Skipper Baraka Laiza and Gokul Das OF 53 runs in the first 10 overs, when Baraka(30) was caught at short covers by Maiwa. Gokul Das was joined by Salimi Saidi but could build a second partnership. Salimini saidi wa run out in the 11th over and Gokul Das was caught at covers in the 12th over leaving two new batsman on the crease. Aahil Jassani and Mohamed Issa built another small partnership of 28 taking their team score to 95 when Mohamed Issa was caught BY Silas in 19.3 overs. Tanzanian batters struggled to play the Botswana spin attack and started losing wickets at regular intervals and settled for 161 runs all out in 40 overs of their allotted 50 overs.
Tanzania showed their determination in defending their score of 161 runs by bowling and fielding tightly to their opponents managing to take 3 wickets for only 36 runs before the first water break. Tanzania’s bowling attack pinned down their opponents and ripped through the rest of the Botswana batsman restricting them to 132 runs all out in the 42nd over of their 50 allotted overs to win their first game of the event. Salimini Saidi destroyed Botswana batting line up by taking 5 wickets for 31 runs in his 10 over spell. Salimini Saidi was awarded with best players of match award by the organizers. Tanzania will face Sierra Leone tomorrow in their second game of the event.
