Tanzania U19 losses again

Poor batting, fielding performance and poor umpiring by Nigerian umpire costs Tanzania their second defeat in the Under 19 World Cup Qualifier against Fiji U19. This leaves Tanzania out of the tournament, even if it wins against Kenya today (06/10/2003).

Tanzania won the toss and elected to bat, openers Shahid Dhanani, Hamisi Abdalah and Middle order batsman Hussein Mohamed gave a good start scoring 88 runs losing 2 wickets in the 15th over. Irresponsible batting by the middle order batsman reduced the Tanzanian team's chances when they were 96 for 7 in the 18th over.

Hussein Mohamed Shani was the only Tanzanian batsman to have restricted the Fijian attack by scoring 46 runs and was the last man out. Fiji bowler Kiti SB Tavo was instrumental in Tanzania's defeat by claiming 6 wickets in his spell of 10 over conceding only 25 runs.

Fiji chasing Tanzania's score of 150 runs achieved their target in 40.4 overs, with batsman Sekove Vouvou scoring 43 runs and Tanzanian fielders dropping 7 catches in the match. Tanzanian bowlers took 7 Fiji wickets and only Athumani Kakonzi earned 4 wickets and performed well to complete his quota of 10 overs.

The defeat by Tanzania leaves them out of the semi finals and will now play the plate event, below the first 4 seeds.

"it is the worst performance of the National team in any age group in the last 4 years" sadly claimed the Tanzanian Team Manager Mr. Taher Kitisa.
