Marafiki.com survived a fight back scare from Veecom Warriors to win by four runs in the only APL Twenty20 match played at the Annadil Burhani venue last Saturday.

The winners batted first to set up a target of 124 runs losing eight wickets in the twenty overs with Harsheel Shah and Abhik Patwa notching 31 and 20 runs respectively. Veecom’s Indian import Prashant Gawde claimed three wickets.

When Veecom were called to bat they tried hard to chase the score but collapsed when the scoreboard read 120 for seven.

Gawde was inspirational in the fight back to hit one run past half century mark. His team mate Khuzeima Janoowala scored 21 runs.

Marafiki.com’s Rashid Amri took two wickets as M. Kaderbhai also claimed as many to rock Veecom’s batting line up.

The league continues on Saturday with Tata Tanzania playing versus Castle Rockets at the Dar es Salaam Gymkhana Club.

The following day there will be two matches of the limited overs version as Tata Tanzania meet Marafiki.com at the Annadil Burhani, while Castle Rockets and Veecom Warriors clash at the Dar Gymkhana venue.

The APL league is supported by Blue Financial Services and is the first of its kind as teams compete for prize money to the tune of one million shillings.
